Choosing Self-Care: To Be a Worker or Not

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear about self-care? A lot of things but work.  

It’s no secret that you live in a very fast-paced world where being “productive work” seems like the norm and is glorified as well. You would be often told to work hard, hustle, and achieve your goals. But here’s a thought: Can self-care also entail being productive? 

Daily Hustle or Not

You might have had those days where it feels like you’re on a hamster wheel, running from one deadline to another. Work and errands – it never ends. Here is what’s important- if you’re always on that wheel, you’re bound to get exhausted.

To be a Worker Bee

Imagine you’re a busy bee getting work done, but never taking a break. You’re finishing one task to another but you’re never taking a break. However, if you keep buzzing without stopping, you might get burned out.

The Self-Care Advocate

On the flip side, picture yourself doing the work that you enjoy. You take breaks experience the little joys, and nurture your well-being. Your work is important, but so is taking care of yourself.

It’s About the Balance

Not everything in life is black or white but in shades of grey. Being a worker bee has its advantages. Achieving goals, meeting deadlines, and climbing the success ladder is amazing. But it shouldn’t come at the cost of your mental and physical well-being.
